Disney ignores Guest & refuses to respond after tragedy…Until

A woman in New Hampshire was forced to cancel her disabled daughter’s dream trip to Disney World after the pandemic left the family unable to travel, but her attempts to reach out to Disney about her options when canceling were ignored–until a major news organization stepped in to help.

Jacky Sullivan, a Disney fan and Brentwood, New Hampshire resident, says her daughter Becky has always loved Disney films. In fact, Jacky says that the beloved Disney films have played on a television in Becky’s room 24 hours a day, seven days a week since Becky was two years old.

She’s now 27 years old.

Becky has autism and is non-verbal, and she loves to watch Disney movies. So one day, her mother Jacky decided that it was time to take Becky on a family vacation back to the Walt Disney World Resort. Becky would be able to see her favorite Disney characters at each Disney World theme park.

“Disney movies twenty-four-seven on the screen in her room since she was like two years old, and she’s 27,” Sullivan said. “So, we’re like, let’s do the Disney trip we always dreamed about doing with her.”

According to NBC Boston, Jacky made a Disney World vacation reservation for September 2021 for seven Guests: six family members and a support nurse for Becky to help her while she was at the parks, purchasing a theme park ticket for each Guest. But when the Delta variant of the coronavirus created a massive wave of new COVID infections nationwide, Becky’s mother Jacky knew they would need to postpone their dream trip.

So she moved the reservation to March 2022, hoping that the wave of new infections would subside by then.

But by March, Jacky says the family had lost their support nurse who was originally booked on their trip to Disney World, and because of staffing shortages related to the pandemic, Jacky was unable to find a nurse who could accompany them to Florida. Jacky says in addition to not having a nurse for her daughter, she began to realize that Becky had regressed socially because of the difficulties brought about by the new wave of the coronavirus pandemic.

“[People with autism] like routine, and if you keep them in that routine, then they keep going because that’s what they do,” Jacky explained. “If you take that routine away, they go back to where they are safe and comfortable. We didn’t realize how far the regression of what she’s doing and capable of doing, or willing to do, how far it regressed until we stopped and went, ‘Wait a minute; what are we doing?’”

Needless to say, Jacky knew a cancellation of the trip to Disney World was on the horizon.

Following that very difficult decision, Jacky says that she tried to contact Guest Relations at Disney for weeks in an attempt to explain her unique scenario and inquire about her options for a cancellation refund or a credit toward another trip. She needed to know if there would be a cancellation fee. But she says that her continued efforts to contact Disney–by phone and email–were to no avail.

“Nothing, nothing,” Jacky said. “Nobody picks up the phone. But somehow, I got through to a message where you could leave a message. No response. Emails, no response.”

Jacky says no matter what she tried, she was unsuccessful in making contact with Disney Guest Relations.

“I’m telling you, we tried every which way to get a hold of them and couldn’t get anywhere,” she said.

As a last resort, Jacky decided to reach out to a news station, NBC Boston. She contacted their NBC Boston Responds initiative and shared her story with them.

The news organization sent an email to Disney on behalf of Jacky Sullivan, and just like magic, Jacky received a phone call from Disney the very next day. More importantly, Jacky received a full refund for the purchase price of her trip: $2,200.

It’s still unclear why no Cast Member with Disney Guest Relations ever responded to Jacky’s many phone calls and emails, and attempts by NBC Boston to contact Disney to inquire about the situation were unsuccessful. But it’s very clear how Jacky feels about NBC’s help and about her refund.

“I can’t believe how quickly you guys managed to get everything refunded; that was amazing,” Jacky told NBC Boston. “The whole thing is sad, right?  So, you know, at least we managed to get the money back. That’s a little bit of a good outcome from the whole thing, so thank you very, very much.”

Here’s hoping Jacky and Becky can return for a Disney vacation very soon!

Former Mouseketeer, Mickey Rooney Jr., Dead at 77

Sad news to report today from Hollywood. Micky Rooney Jr. — the former Mouseketeer and eldest son of Hollywood icon Mickey Rooney — has died at the age of 77. Rooney had a short career as a Mouseketeer, but did act in several films, and he was also a member of Willie Nelson’s band. His longtime friend and fellow former Mouseketeer Paul Petersen shared news of his death.

Petersen made the following post on his Facebook page:

Mickey Rooney, Jr peacefully passed away this morning in Arizona. For the past many years, he lived with and was in the care of Chrissie Brown and her family. I first met Mickey, the oldest of nine siblings sired by his famous father when he and Timmy were hired by Disney to be Mouseketeers in 1955. Mickey Junior was tall and talented. He could sing, dance and act…and get in trouble. We three were fired for Conduct Unbecoming a Mouse!

Mickey Junior was the personification of “damaged goods.” He gave all he could. I was born on the same day as Mickey’s father and “The Mic” gave me, unsolicited mind you, the most useful advice I ever got. It is one of my greatest sorrows that he didn’t do the same for his son. Mickey Rooney Junior. Rest In Peace at last. We will see to your wishes.

Variety was one of the first to report on Rooney’s passing and shared more information about his life:

Born Joseph Yule III in Birmingham, Ala., he and brother Tim Rooney were hired as backup castmembers on ABC’s “The Mickey Mouse Club” in 1955. Together, they worked on a handful of episodes before both brothers were fired.

Rooney Jr. played guitar, keyboard, bass, drums and harmonica. In the 1960s, he recorded songs including “The Wandering Wind,” “The Choice Is Yours” and “It Certainly Ain’t a Nice Thing.” He had also appeared on the ABC music show “Shindig!” and played in a band with brothers Tim and Teddy.

Mickey Rooney Jr. was not the only member of his family to work for Disney. His father, Mickey Rooney, did a lot of work for The House of Mouse. In 1977, Rooney played Lampy in the film Pete’s Dragon. He also was the voice of adult Tod in the 1981 film, The Fox and the Hound. Millennials may recognize Rooney for his role in the Disney Channel Original Movie, Phantom of the Megaplex.

Mickey Rooney died of natural causes in 2014 at the age of 93. No cause of death has been released for Mickey Rooney Jr. Rooney Jr. is survived by his longtime companion Christi Brown, and his half-brother Michael Rooney. His younger brother, Tim Rooney, passed away in 2006 at the age of 59.

John Stamos Names His One Problem With Disney

There are some celebrities who are frequently seen around the Disney Parks, who constantly talk about their love for Disney, and even spend a ton of money on authentic Disney merchandise that most people could never dream of owning. One of the most well-known Disney adults is Broadway and acting sensation, Neil Patrick Harris. However, he is battling another celeb for the top of the Disney love pyramid. That would be Full House star, John Stamos — who played Uncle Jessie in the series — who not only loves to visit the Parks, but has been known to Disney bound a time or two with his wife and son.

There is almost nothing about Disney that Stamos doesn’t love. Almost. He loves the food, the rides, the atmosphere, Disney on Broadway, and the movies. He even spent his honeymoon at Walt Disney World and shared pictures of him and his bride at Magic Kingdom. The one thing he doesn’t love is that Neil Patrick Harris has one thing he doesn’t — a drink named after him. Stamos recently sat down for an interview with Yahoo!Life, and spoke about his “bone to pick” with The House of Mouse.

“Why does Neil Patrick Harris have a drink named after him and not me?” he asks. The drink he’s referring to is the Black Magic Margarita, a mezcal-based cocktail Harris created for La Cava del Tequila, a popular bar at Epcot’s Mexico Pavilion, where he happens to be a regular fixture.

So, what would Stamos’ signature drink be called? “Johnny’s Sparkling Water of Love,” he says. No booze here as Stamos abstains from alcohol — “it’s just sparkling water … with love,” he explains.

Stamos is currently on a world tour with the Beach Boys and can be seen on the Disney+ original series Big Shot — or, you know, walking around Disneyland Park with his 4 year old and a “horn dog” in tow.

If you love not only everything Disney, but also everything John Stamos, then we suggest you head over to Disney+! There, you can watch Stamos in a number of movies and television shows — The Little Mermaid Live, Muppets Haunted Mansion, and Big Shots — which was just renewed for a second season. You can also follow Stamos on Instagram to keep up with his exciting Walt Disney World and Disneyland adventures.

Beast Suffers Wardrobe Malfunction

One of the best parts of dining at Walt Disney World Resort is all of the unique character experiences you can have. At places like Topolino’s Terrace at Disney’s Riviera Resort, Guests can see Mickey, Minnie, and their friends in their full-on art phase. If you want to go on safari, head to Disney’s Animal Kingdom and experience Donald’s Breakfast Safari at Tusker House. Be Our Guest brings Guests into the heart of the classic film, Beauty and the Beast. They can dine in the West Wing, or even in the enchanting Ballroom, where Belle and Beast danced to a song about a tale as old as time. Dining at Be Our Guest also allows guests to meet the Lord of the Manor, the Beast himself. While he may be an intimidating figure, the Beast recently had an unfortunate wardrobe mishap that may have slightly altered the magic.

Lizy_lizelba recently shared a video on her TikTok showing the beast walking out into the dining room, waving to Guests, bending over, and losing his head. Cast Members quickly came to the rescue to help him get the head back on and escort him from the room. Cast Members try as hard as they can to keep the magic alive, but accidents sometimes happen. Thankfully, the problem was quickly rectified, and the Cast Member was taken backstage, so they could fix any issues the costume may have had.

If you have not had the chance to dine at Be Our Guest yet, here is more information from the Walt Disney World Resort website:

Feast on French-inspired fare in one of our elaborately themed rooms—straight out of the beloved Disney classic!
