‘Lightyear’ Director Blames Internet Trolls For Poor Film Reviews

Even before it came to theaters on June 17, Disney and Pixar’s newest film Lightyear generated a ton of controversy. For one thing, fans were not thrilled that Disney decided to cast Marvel star Chris Evans as the voice of Buzz Lightyear, instead of using Tim Allen, who voiced the original character throughout the Toy Story franchise. Second, a lot of viewers took issue with the fact that there was not only a lesbian couple, but that they share a brief kiss. That scene alone caused the film to be banned in a number of countries, including Saudi Arabia.

Not long after Lightyear was released, it was bombed with a number of negative reviews. However, director Angus MacLane is defending the new Pixar film and clarifying what he thinks caused the massive amount of negative reviews — internet trolls. Twitter user @sherelleigh said that they loved Lightyear and could not understand why it had such low ratings, and MacLane responded:

A lot of times people may look at reviews before deciding to see a movie, but MacLane provided a great reason as to why everyone should see Lightyear and not look at reviews. According to MacLane, a majority of the negative reviews came from people who didn’t actually see the movie. MacLane tweeted:

Before the film’s release, Disney clarified that the film was based on the real-life Space Ranger who inspired the toy Buzz Lightyear, which is why the Chris Evans casting choice was made. Disney also decided to put the same-sex kiss back into the film after originally leaving it on the cutting room floor. That decision was made not long after Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed the controversial Parental Rights In Education bill into law.

One Disney Park Is A Top Theme Park In the US, Universal Ranks Best In the World

When you ask someone to think of top theme parks, it wouldn’t be all that surprising to hear them mention Disney World’s four incredible Parks — Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, EPCOT, and Animal Kingdom. They may also mention Universal Studious, and maybe even SeaWorld. And while us Disney fans think there is no better place to vacation than a Disney Park, it seems that most people don’t even rank Disney as a top theme park in the world or even the United States.

The travel site Tripadvisor recently came out with its rankings for top theme parks in both the United States and around the world and out of all of its theme parks, Disney only had one rank on the Best in the U.S. list. and none ranked globally. Universal Studios, however, not only had several Parks rank on the best in the U.S. list, but also ranked as one of the top theme parks in the world.

Universal Orlando

According to Tripadvisor, the following are the top theme parks in the U.S.

1. Dollywood: Pigeon Forge, Tennessee
2. Universal’s Islands of Adventure: Orlando
3. Magic Kingdom Park: Orlando
4. Universal Studios Hollywood: Los Angeles
5. Universal Studios Florida: Orlando
6. Silver Dollar City: Branson, Missouri
7. Funland: Rehoboth Beach, Delaware
8. Fun Spot America: Kissimmee, Florida
9. Santa’s Village: Jefferson, New Hampshire
10. Busch Gardens: Tampa, Florida

While there are a number of Orlando theme parks that made it on the list of best theme parks in the United States, only one Universal Park made it to the top ten list for best global amusement parks. Zero Disney Parks made the global list.

1. Siam Park: Adeje, Spain
2. Puy du Fou: Les Epesses, France
3. Beto Carrero World: Penha, Brazil
4. Puy du Fou España: Toledo, Spain
5. The Milky Way Adventure Park: Clovelly, United Kingdom
6. Hot Park: Rio Quente, Brazil
7. Waterbom Bali: Kuta, Indonesia
8. Dollywood: Pigeon Forge, Tennessee
9. Universal’s Islands of Adventure: Orlando
10. Parque Terra Mágica Florybal: Canela, Brazil

According to Tripadvisor, the top theme parks were picked based on Guest reviews for the experiences, tours, activities, and attractions that each theme park offers. While Disney may not have had a lot of top rankings, this list definitely gives people a ton of other great recommendations when it comes to theme parks they may want to experience!

National Treasure Series Finally Has a Title

One of the most highly anticipated shows to come to Disney+ finally has a title! Up until now, the show based on the film series National Treasure has been known simply as “Disney’s National Treasure Series”. However, ahead of San Diego’s Comic Con where the show is hosting a panel, the official title was announced on Twitter. National Treasure: Edge of History will be the show’s moniker and it has fans excited.

Though the series won’t feature Nicholas Cage, star of the popular film franchise that the show is based off of, there will still be all of the action, suspense, and drama we have come to know and love from the movies. The logo doesn’t reveal much, but it reveals enough to know that the feel of the movies will be preserved in the show. It has been compared to “Indiana Jones-esqe adventure and intrigue” and we have to agree with that assessment, at least if the movies are any indication.

National treasure series

The series will feature a new generation of treasure hunters. Jess (Lisette Alexis), is a DREAMer who is determined to solve the mystery about her family’s hidden past to save an ancient Pan-American Treasure. Throughout the series she will have to outwit and outmaneuver dangers and those who seek to stop her from uncovering the truth.

Though Nicholas Cage will not be returning to his role, his co-star Justin Bartha will be reprising his role as Riley Poole on a recurring basis which will tie the new series to the films. Catherine Zeta-Jones also joins the cast to provide a bit of intrigue as a billionaire black marketeer. Lydon Smith, Zuri Reed, Jake Austin Walker, Antonio Cipriano, and Jordan Rodrigue will also join the series cast.

Production is currently underway, and while the series does not yet have a debut date, it is believed that the series will make its way to Disney+ in late 2022 or early 2023.
