Taking a trip to a Disney Park can be an absolutely exhausting experience — from early mornings to late nights, waiting in long lines, and dealing with massive crowds. A Disney vacation could really be an exercise program disguised as a vacation, and nerves and patience can dwindle as the day goes on. However, Disney Parks are also magical places filled with children and adults who just want to have a good time and smile. Unfortunately, a wrench was thrown into that good time recently when two groups visiting Disneyland Resort got into an all-out brawl.
The fight started while Guests were gathered along the Rivers of America at Disneyland Park to celebrate the return of the nighttime show, Fantasmic!. A video of the fight was shared on social media and, in the video, Disneyland security can be seen pulling the Guests apart as other Guests ran to get out of the way. You can watch the video, which was shared by bursteey (@theonlyburst) on Twitter, below:
It is unknown what caused the fight to break out in the first place. After videos of the fight began to go viral, Disney officials released the following statement:
“We do not condone this type of reprehensible behavior. Disneyland Resort security intervened swiftly, deescalated the situation and removed the guests from the park.”
According to the Anaheim police, no arrests were made, and the incident was fully handled by Disneyland security.
Sadly, this is not the first time that a fight has broken out at a Disney Park or on Disney property. Recently, two families got into a fight at Disney Springs when one family was caught stealing a wagon stroller from another family. In the past few months, fights have also broken out at EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, and the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World Resort.
Disney security does its best to break up these altercations as soon as they are made aware of the issue. Guests who engage in that type of behavior are escorted from the theme park they are in and risk being banned from Disney permanently. If you see a fight while you are there, do not get involved, find Disney security as quickly as possible, and keep yourself out of the fray.
On June 1, the jury in the Johnny Depp/Amber Heard defamation lawsuit came back with a verdict. They decided that both sides had defamed each other, but Amber Heard was more in the wrong. They awarded Heard $2 million in her lawsuit against Depp — she had requested $100 million. On the other side, the jury decided that Depp should be awarded $15 million out of his requested $50 million. While that is certainly a win for Depp, it looks like he may find himself back in court sooner than he ever thought.
According to exclusive documents obtained by Radar Online, the ACLU — American Civil Liberties Union — is suing Depp for more than $86,000. The basis of their claim? They claim that they spent that on documents they had to produce for the trial and for the time it took some of their people to testify in court. According to Radar Online:
They argue the star should reimburse them for the “considerable expense spent responding to onerous subpoenas served by Mr. Depp from an underlying action in which neither the ACLU nor any of its employees are parties.”
The organization said they had to review 7,500 documents and eventually turned over 2,000 documents to comply with a subpoena.
Further, “the ACLU produced three witnesses—including its Executive Director—for over sixteen hours of depositions. Along the way, Mr. Depp rejected numerous compromises to minimize the burden and expense on the ACLU and its employees.”
The ACLU said it has given Depp all the documents he sought. Their lawyer argued “while they cannot get back the significant time they spent responding to Mr. Depp’s subpoenas and the disruption to their work,” they are “entitled” to reimbursements.
The ACLU and its work with Heard became a large part of Depp’s lawsuit. The lawsuit was based on a 2018 OpEd that Heard wrote for The Washington Post, where Heard claimed that she was a survivor of domestic abuse. During the trial, it came out that Heard did not even write the original OpEd, someone at the ACLU did with her team giving notes. Heard had become an Ambassador for the ACLU, and they worked with people on Heard’s team to write the OpEd and then release it while Heard was doing press for her new film, Aquaman.
As part of her divorce settlement, Heard claimed that she would donate $3.5 million to the ACLU. However, it was stated during the trial that Heard had only paid $1.3 million to them, and it wasn’t even all from her. At least $500K from that $1.3 million was rumored to have come from Heard’s former flame, Tesla founder Elon Musk. Another $500K came from more than one “donor-advised” funds. Heard claimed that she had not yet paid because Depp sued her, but she had received all of her money from Depp months before the lawsuit was even launched.
A judge has not yet ruled on whether the ACLU’s lawsuit can move forward.
This is the day you will always remember as the day you almost caught Captain Jack Sparrow!”
The jury has found that Johnny Depp has won his trial. Per the jury, he has proven his case, and the jury sided with Depp on all three counts he had brought in his suit against Amber Heard. Amber Heard’s op-ed in The Washington Post defamed him, and that Depp has proven with “clear and convincing evidence” that Amber Heard made false allegations against Depp and did so with malice.
The list goes on and on and on, but the one thing remains: Johnny Depp has won his defamation case against his ex-wife Amber Heard.
Damages were awarded in the amount of $10 million to Johnny Depp, and Depp was also awarded punitive damages of $5 million; however, the law in Virginia caps punitive damages at $350,000, and thus, Judge Azcarate adjusted that amount after the entirety of the verdict was read to the court.
The only “no” responses by the jury were those in response to questions about whether Amber Heard proved her countersuit and her allegations. Some of Amber Heard’s claims as they pertained to statements made by Depp’s former legal counsel were found to be truthful by the jury. As such, the jury found that Amber Heard had been defamed by those statements made by Depp’s former attorney, Adam Waldman. The jury found those statements by Waldman to be false.
Amber Heard was awarded $2 million in damages, but no punitive damages were awarded to her.
The decisions announced in the Johnny Depp v. Amber Heard defamation trial came after more than 12 hours of deliberations.
Depp was not in the courtroom at the time the verdict was read aloud, as he is in the U.K.
Depp’s ex-wife Amber Heard, however, was in the courtroom when the jury shared its findings, and her facial expressions clearly showed her feelings at hearing the jury’s decision.
The court announced early Wednesday afternoon that the jury had come to a decision, reaching a verdict after more than 12 hours of deliberations. It was also announced that the verdict would be read in court at 3:00 p.m. EST.
After the court’s announcement, Law & Crime TV, which has live-streamed the entire trial from beginning to end, said it was going “commercial-free” so as not to miss a moment of the reading of the verdict. Just before court was called to order for the reading, Law & Crime TV announced on its YouTube channel that a record had been set on Wednesday for the most viewers watching the trial at any one time since the trial began on April 11–more than 2.2 million online viewers on that channel alone.
As court was called to order, Judge Penney Azcarate called the attorneys for both sides to approach the bench. After a short sidebar, court was dismissed as jurors had to go back to the deliberations room to complete damages forms before the verdict could be read.
Correspondents for some media outlets made the preliminary assumption that because the form had been left blank, Johnny Depp had won his case, and they were correct. In fact, after the reading of the verdict.
