Disney Launches NEW Division to Develop “Residential Communities”

Today, The Walt Disney Company has confirmed that it has officially launched a new division — Storyliving by Disney — to develop residential communities.

According to a press release from Disney, the first community will be located in California:

As more and more fans look for new ways to make Disney a bigger part of their lives, the company today announced plans to introduce Storyliving by Disney, vibrant new neighborhoods that are infused with the company’s special brand of magic. These master-planned communities are intended to inspire residents to foster new friendships, pursue their interests and write the next exciting chapter in their lives—all while enjoying the attention to detail, unique amenities and special touches that are Disney hallmarks.

The first Storyliving by Disney community will be built in Rancho Mirage, in California’s Coachella Valley—a location where Walt Disney himself owned a home and would spend leisure time with his family. Additional locations in the U.S. are under exploration for future development.

Disney already has a luxury housing community near Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida. Golden Oak is comprised of several neighborhoods — Carolwood, Kimball Trace, Kingswell, Marceline, Silverbrook, Symphony Grove, The Cottages at Symphony Grove, and Four Seasons Private Residences Orlando — that all pay homage to Walt Disney himself. Each has unique aesthetics and features, so be sure to discover them all on the official Golden Oak website.

Storyliving by Disney will seemingly take bring the Golden Oak lifestyle to new areas of the country. Disney shared a quote from Parks, Experiences and Products Chairman Josh D’Amaro about this new division, and how exciting it is for the company to bring Disney magic to families outside of Disney Parks:

“For nearly 100 years, Disney has shared stories that have touched the hearts and minds of people all around the world. As we prepare to enter our second century, we are developing new and exciting ways to bring the magic of Disney to people wherever they are, expanding storytelling to storyliving. We can’t wait to welcome residents to these beautiful and unique Disney communities where they can live their lives to the fullest.”

Bob Saget’s family asks Orange County judge to restrict the release of death records

Heartbroken family members of the late comedian and actor Bob Saget have filed suit in Orange County, Florida, to block authorities from releasing records that pertain to the investigation into the actor’s death, according to The Orlando Sentinel.

A suit filed today by Saget’s wife, Kelly Rizzo, and Saget’s three daughters, Aubrey Saget, Lara Saget, and Jennifer Saget, is aimed at preventing the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and the District Nine Medical Examiner’s Office from releasing further information about Saget’s death investigation. The suit is in response to a number of requests for public records that relate to the investigation that took place after Saget was found deceased in his room at the Ritz-Carlton Orlando Hotel on January 9.

According to the complaint filed in court, Saget’s family will “suffer irreparable harm in the form of extreme mental pain, anguish, and emotional distress” if more information about Saget’s death investigation is released. The complaint further states that “no legitimate public interest would be served by the release or dissemination of the records to the public.”

The beloved actor and comedian was perhaps best known for his role as single dad of three, Danny Tanner, on the Disney-owned ABC series, Full House, which aired on ABC for eight seasons from 1987 to 1995.

Saget was in Florida as part of his I Don’t Do Negative tour. He had just performed his stand-up comedy show the night before he was discovered deceased in his hotel room at the Ritz-Carlton. Saget’s family released a statement last week, citing head trauma as that which precipitated and caused his passing. The final autopsy report was not released until Friday by the Orange County Florida Medical Examiner, Dr. Joshua Stephany.

The report echoed what Saget’s family shared: that head trauma led to the actor’s death. The official report cited multiple fractures to Saget’s skull and detailed injuries that the medical examiner attributed to a fall. But since the official report was released, members of the medical community have raised questions about the findings, suggesting that such extensive injuries would have resulted from a very serious event, such as falling from a significant height, being struck, or having been thrown as in a car accident.

“I think what it reveals more than anything else is this was not a simple bump on the head,” says neurosurgeon Dr. Sanjay Gupta, Chief Medical Correspondent for CNN. “When you read this autopsy report that may still be the case, but it was a pretty significant blow to the head.”

Fans of the late actor have taken to social media to air their questions about Saget’s injuries, some going so far as to claim foul play, against what the Orange County Sheriff’s Office report from January 9 states.

Attorneys for Saget’s family from the GrayRobinson law firm in Orlando say that photos, videos, and audio recordings from Saget’s death investigation should not be released, as they are confidential.

“The facts of the investigation should be made public, but these materials should remain private out of respect for the dignity of Mr. Saget and his family,” said GrayRobinson attorney Brian Bieber in a statement. “It’s very simple from a human and legal standpoint; the Saget family’s privacy rights outweigh any public interest in disclosure of this sensitive information.”

Under Florida law concerning public records, documentation of autopsies that include photos, videos, and audio recordings are exempt from release to the public. This exemption was created by Florida’s legislature after the death of NASCAR’s Dale Earnhardt in February 2001 in response to controversy over his autopsy photos.

Disney Legend Dick Van Dyke Releases Music Video With Wife

Disney Legend Dick Van Dyke may be 96-years-old, but that doesn’t seem to slow him down one bit. Instead, the well-known, award-winning, actor and singer took February 14, 2022, as the opportunity to release a music video with his wife.

Chances are most of us Disney fans know Van Dyke from his appearance in the classic Disney film Mary Poppins (1964), where Van Dyke played the talented chimney sweep, Bert. He also appeared in Mary Poppins Returns (2018) as Mr. Dawes, Jr. Of course, he was also the star of his own CBS television sitcom The Dick Van Dyke Show (1961–1966).

And that just touches a few small pieces of Van Dyke’s lengthy and impressive career which landed him several awards and led to him being named Disney Legend in 1998.

At the age of 96, Van Dyke is still showing he’s got the moves and the voice down as he released “Everybody Loves a Lover” music video with his 50-year-old wife, Arlene Silver.

The couple met at the SAG awards as Arlene was a makeup artist. The 46-year age gap between Van Dyke and Silver doesn’t seem to be an issue for these two love birds as they prepare to celebrate their 10th anniversary on February 29, 2022.

So, what better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day than with a new song and music video release! The song is titled “Everybody Loves a Lover” by Arlene & the Vantastix, featuring Dick Van Dyke & Tony Guerrero. Here it is below:

Disney Makes MASSIVE Change to Mask Policy

BIG news coming out of Walt Disney World Resort today, February 15, 2022. Disney has updated its website to announce face coverings will now be optional in almost all parts of the Disney Parks and Resorts.

As COVID cases in Orange Country and Central Florida decline, Disney has reevaluated its face-covering policy. The news comes on the heels of last week’s announcement that Disney World’s neighboring theme park competitor, Universal Orlando Resort has dropped its face mask policy.

Now, it looks like Walt Disney World Resort is following suit! According to Walt Disney WorldBeginning February 17, 2022, Face coverings will be optional for fully vaccinated Guests in both outdoor and indoor locations. We expect Guests who are not fully vaccinated to continue wearing face coverings in all indoor locations, including indoor attractions and theaters. Face coverings will still be required by all Guests (ages 2 and up) on enclosed Disney transportation, including Disney buses, monorails, and Disney Skyliner.

Disney Skyliner

Take close notice that if you plan to use Disney transportation, you will still need a mask on hand as Disney noted Disney buses, monorail, and the Disney Skyliner will still require Guests to wear masks.

While the new policy states that face coverings will be optional for fully vaccinated Guests, Disney will not be checking vaccination records of Disney Guests.

Through Wednesday, February 16, 2022, Guests visiting the Disney property will still be required to use face coverings and follow along with the current policy which states, “Face coverings are required for all Guests (ages 2 and up) in all indoor locations, regardless of vaccination status. This includes upon entering and throughout all indoor attractions and indoor queues and in Disney buses, monorail, and Disney Skyliner, regardless of vaccination status. Face coverings are optional for Guests in outdoor areas.”

The most interesting part of this face-covering adjustment is that while Walt Disney World is dropping its face mask requirement throughout most of its property, Hong Kong Disneyland Park still remains closed due to COVID through February 23.

Is Splash Mountain Still Being Reimagined?

Disney announced the nostalgic Splash Mountain attraction at both Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort would be dropping its Song of the South (1946) theme and making an adjustment to be more inclusive with The Princess and the Frog (2009) theme. While Br’er Rabbit vs. Princess Tiana has been among many Disney fan discussions, oddly enough, Disney has dropped the reimagining reference from its website.

Disney first made the announcement of the retheming back in June 2020. The shock of the announcement quickly spread through Disney fandom causing mixed views. Some Disney fans were excited that Princess Tiana and her New Orleans crew would finally be getting an attraction themed after them. On the flip-side, some Disney fans wanted Disney to keep the classic Splash Mountain boat ride as is with Br’er Rabbit, Br’er Fox, and Br’er Bear.

Now, a year and a half later, we aren’t seeing any adjustments taking place to Splash Mountain just yet. Splash Mountain recently underwent its “routine maintenance” closure, but the reopening showed no signs of Princess Tiana. Not only did Splash Mountain resume as is after the refurbishment, but Disney dropped the reimagining reference of the upcoming The Princess and the Frog theme from its website.

Splash Mountain to Princess and the Frog

Previously, the Splash Mountain ride landing page noted, “An exciting new refresh is coming to this attraction.” The note included a “Read More” link which took Guests to details about The Princess and the Frog retheming. Now, that message is completely gone.

While Disney may have dropped the reference from its website, you can still find reimagining details on Disney Parks Blog which makes us believe all is still a go for the transformation.

Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products shared reimagining of Splash Mountain has been expedited back in November 2020. In August 2021, Melissa Valiquette, the Vice president of Magic Kingdom, asked for patience with “Our Guests are going to have to put a little bit of trust into us for a bit because we promise not to let you down. We’re going to deliver a wonderful attraction that is inspiring and beautiful and worthy of this princess, Princess Tiana.”

Disney’s description of the reimagining has noted, “As seen in this latest rendering of the attraction, the story will take place after the final kiss as Naveen and Louis join Princess Tiana on her latest adventure, hosting a one-of-a-kind Mardi Gras celebration where everyone is welcome – during which some original music inspired by songs from the film will bring Guests into the story. Tiana is leading the way and fans will be able to encounter old friends and make new ones along the way as well!”
