‘The Lion King’ Prequel Adds Kelvin Harrison Jr. and Aaron Pierre in Leading Roles

The prequel to the 2019 live-action remake of “The Lion King” has cast its lead roles, with Aaron Pierre (“Old”) voicing Mufasa and Kelvin Harrison Jr. (“Waves”) voicing Scar.

According to Deadline, The movie will follow the brothers in their youth, back when Harrison Jr.’s Scar was known as Taka. More details about the plot have yet to be released. Writer Jeff Nathanson is returning, and the film will be directed by Barry Jenkins (“Moonlight”).

This will be the first theatrical chapter in the franchise where the role of Mufasa has not been voiced by James Earl Jones. Jones shares the role with Gary Anthony Williams in Disney Jr.’s “The Lion Guard,” but neither actor has been tied to the new film.

Pluto Statue Officially Announced for Fab 50

As the old saying goes, “every dog has its day.” And with today being National Dog Day, it’s only fitting that Pluto has officially been revealed to be part of the Disney Fab 50 Character Collection at Walt Disney World.

Mickey Mouse’s beloved pooch will have his statue featured at the Magic Kingdom in the park’s hub, as was previously revealed on the cover of the upcoming book A Portrait of Walt Disney World: 50 Years of the Most Magical Place on Earth.

ESPN’s chairman, Jimmy Pitaro, made the announcement on Disney’s Instagram channel.

Disney Files Permit for Construction at Primeval Whirl in Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Disney has filed a permit for “general construction” at the site of Primeval Whirl in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, which permanently closed over a year ago.

Other than ride vehicles being removed, the attraction has sat mostly untouched. Earlier this year, Disney filed a permit for “labor, material and/or electrical for construction”, contracting their in-house construction company, but no visible work has been done to the attraction.

The new permit may be for demolition of the attraction, but it contracts MLC Theming, a company that usually deals in construction. The permit expires in April 2022, so any work that will be done should be visible in the coming months.
