You know, heroes don’t always wear capes! In fact, the heroes that make this world a better place are usually the every day people we encounter. In this case, a Walt Disney World Cast Member was a true hero to a 4-year-old child that he saved on the way home from his shift. Disney heard about the experience and honored the Cast Member with a special award.
As shared by Walt Disney World Cast and Communityon Facebook: “Security Cast Member, Joe Diaz was recently honored with a Disney Heroes Award for helping to save the life of a young child in our Central Florida community. On his way home last December, Joe witnessed a van flip over into a pond on the side of the road and quickly jumped in, entering the partially flooded vehicle and helping to keep a trapped 4-year-old child’s head above water until emergency teams arrived and were able to free him. His bravery and compassion are an inspiration to us all, and we are so proud and grateful to honor him. Congratulations Joe! #DisneyHeroes #WDWCast #DisneySecurity”

The Kilimanjaro Safaris family got a little bigger today at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, as a baby Hartmann’s mountain zebra was born on the savanna, and we have a look at the bouncing (and standing) baby boy!
Guests riding Kilimanjaro Safaris today got to see the miracle of birth and the magic of nature in stunning reality. Some lucky guests got to see the birth of a Hartmann’s mountain zebra foal that was born on the savanna this morning. Estimated to weigh about 65 pounds, the healthy baby boy has long legs and was standing and nuzzling with mom within minutes of birth.
Mom Heidi is a parenting pro – staying close to her baby to bond and nurse. Bonding is especially important, as a young zebra will imprint on its mother’s scent and memorize the unique markings on its mother’s hind legs to tell her apart from others in the herd. In the coming weeks, the pair will rejoin sister Asha and the rest of the herd on the savanna.
The foal was born as part of the Species Survival Plan program, which is overseen by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums and ensures responsible breeding and genetic diversity of hundreds of animal species.
Today’s joyful arrival marks the first zebra birth at Walt Disney World this year. The resort is home to three distinct types of zebra: Hartmann’s mountain zebra, Grevy’s zebra and plains zebra. Though zebra may all be defined by their stripes, there are distinct stripe patterns that define each type. Hartmann’s mountain and Grevy’s zebras have stripes that stop right at the edge of their bellies, while stripes on common zebras wrap around the whole body. You can tell a Grevy’s zebra from a Hartmann’s mountain zebra by looking at their ears. They are larger on the Grevy’s zebra. Hartmann’s mountain zebras are found in sub-Saharan Africa and are a vulnerable species due to habitat loss and hunting.
Production on Disenchanted, the sequel to Disney’s Enchanted, has begun. The film is shooting in Ireland and will debut exclusively on Disney+ in 2022. Amy Adams is returning in the lead role of Giselle, as well as producing. Barry Josephson and Barry Sonnenfeld are returning as producers. Adam Shankman (Hairspray, The Wedding Planner) is directing. Composer Alan Menken and lyricist Stephen Schwartz are back to write new songs for the musical.
Also returning to the cast is Patrick Dempsey as Giselle’s husband, the cynical pragmatist Robert Philip; James Marsden as the dashing but daft Prince Edward from Andalasia;and Idina Menzel as Nancy Tremaine, the former dressmaker now married to Prince Edward. Maya Rudolph will be playing Malvina, the film’s villain, and Kolton Stewart will be playing her son. Also among the cast are Yvette Nicole Brown as Rosalyn, Jayma Mays as Ruby, Oscar Nunez as Edgar, and Gabriella Baldacchino as Robert’s teenage daughter, Morgan. This is 19-year-old Baldacchino’s feature film debut. The seven dwarfs will also reportedly make an appearance.
“Working again with Disney has been like coming home,” says director/producer Adam Shankman. “With Amy and this extraordinary cast, Alan and Stephen’s mind-blowing new score, and Barry and Disney’s support, I just hope to bring magic and joy to audiences around the world.”
Producer Barry Josephson says, “I guess dreams do come true…producing Enchanted was the most rewarding film experience I’ve ever had. I’m so excited for Adam Shankman to begin filming Disenchanted. I want to thank everyone at Disney for supporting us all the way. Very special thanks to Amy Adams for deciding to play ‘Giselle,’ the character she created again! And we are so fortunate to have this incredible cast!”
Disenchanted features the much-anticipated return of Giselle, the princess from the fairy tale world of Andalasia banished to Manhattan who found her real Princess Charming in divorce lawyer Robert Philip. 15 years later, Giselle moves to the suburb of Monroeville with Robert and their teenage daughter Morgan, where she must juggle the challenges that come with a new home and discover what happily ever after truly means to her and her new family.
