Walt Disney World Now Testing Facial Recognition Technology for Theme Park Entry

Via wdwnt.com

Facial recognition technology was tested this morning at the entrance to Magic Kingdom. Walt Disney World has shifted in recent months to utilizing more touchless technology, and the newest addition could be touchless entry to the theme parks through facial recognition.

The test was optional this morning, and testing will continue sporadically. The test was only conducted for a short period today.

The testing takes place in three easy steps. Guests begin by entering the designated facial recognition testing lane. After that, guests are instructed to remove any hats, visors, or sunglasses before approaching the facial recognition testing zone. Guests will need to position their MagicBand or valid park admission close to a scanner to activate the technology. The technology will then capture an image and convert that into a unique number that is associated with the valid ticket.

Disney added a note stating that the “security, integrity, and confidentiality of your information are extremely important to us.” They go on to state that the images captured will only be stored for 30 days, and that the images or unique numbers will not be shared with third parties. They also add that despite strict security measures, “no security measures are perfect or impenetrable.”

Brightline High Speed Rail Not Scheduled to Connect to Walt Disney World Until, At Earliest, 2026

Via wdwnt.com

The heavily anticipated Brightline high speed rail that would connect the Orlando International Airport to Walt Disney World is now scheduled to start service as early as mid-2026. The route from Disney property to the airport would cost anywhere from $1.03-$2.1 billion, depending on which exact route is selected.

Florida transportation authorities recently stated that they gave Brightline a deadline of mid-summer 2021 to negotiate an agreement with local and state agencies. This agreement includes securing leases that would involve adding the station at Disney Springs by the end of 2023.

With Disney’s Magical Express transportation to and from the Orlando International Airport ending in 2022, the Brightline rail could help reduce the impact of this loss once service begins. However, the train service still won’t be running for years after that end date.

MagicMobile Pass Now Listed on My Disney Experience App

We previously shared the news that Disney is introducing a new system called “MagicMobile” that will soon debut as an innovative way to have all access to your park tickets and more right from the My Disney Experience App. This new MagicMobile is said to be beneficial to all Disney guests, but especially Disney resort guests which no longer receive a complimentary MagicBands. Well, it looks like the MagicMobile will hopefully be arriving sooner rather than later, as it now appears on the My Disney Experience App menu.

Head to the menu page on your My Disney Experience App where you’ll now see “Disney MagicMobile Pass”.

When pressing the “Disney MagicMobile Pass” option, you’ll be sent to this “Coming Soon!” screen with the details.

Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort Reopens Today

Slowly, but surely we’re getting there Disney fans! Today, March 22, is an exciting day at Walt Disney World as Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort officially reopened to guests since it’s closure over a year ago due to the COVID-19 pandemic. So, what’s to come for the remaining Disney Resorts?

Currently Open:

The following Disney Resort hotels are open and accepting new reservations:

  • – Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort
  • – Boulder Ridge Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge

Reopening Dates Disney Has Announced:

Currently, the Walt Disney World website shows the following three resorts with estimated reopening time frames. Keep in mind, the three noted below have already reopened the Disney Vacation Club (DVC) Villas.

  •  May 30, 2021 Disney’s Beach Club Resort
  •  June 6, 2021 Disney’s Wilderness Lodge
  • – Summer 2021 Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

So, which Resorts are missing?

Resorts that currently don’t have a reopening date include:

  • Animal Kingdom Lodge – Jambo House (DVC Villas already open)
  • Disney’s All-Star Music
  • Disney’s All-Star Sports
  • BoardWalk Inn (DVC Villas already open)
  • Port Orleans French Quarter
  • Port Orleans Riverside

Disney is continuously accessing park capacity, social distancing, and the need for their Disney Resorts to reopen. We suspect when Disney is able to lift their 35% capacity, it won’t be long before guests flood to the park and fill up the resorts once again.
