Man Arrested for Spitting at Walt Disney World Cast Member Over Mask Policy

An arrest report has hit the news regarding a Florida man that allegedly spit on a Walt Disney World security guard at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. The report shows that once the cast member asked the man to put on a mask, he spit at her.

As reported via OrlandoSentinel: “A 51-year-old Palm Beach man was charged with a felony after he was accused of spitting at a Disney World security guard who asked him to put on his mask, according to an Orange County Sheriff’s arrest report released Monday. Kelly McKin was charged with a battery on a security officer, court records show. McKin adamantly denied spitting on the guard last month at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, the arrest report said.”

OrlandoSentinel goes on to report: “On Feb. 5, the guard said she had confronted him about not wearing a mask on Disney property as he was walking into the Contemporary’s convention center. She asked if he needed directions. “I’m a guest,” he told her. The convention center was closed, she said. She asked him to put on his mask. He promised he would do so once he went inside the building. The security guard reminded him masks were required at all times on Disney property.“The male told her to leave him alone, and took a step towards her and spit on her,” the arrest report said. “The spit did not make direct contact but some saliva did hit her on her left forehead.”

“The guard, who did not have a radio on her, went to get backup while the man disappeared inside the hotel and got on the elevators. “That was the last he was seen,” the arrest report said. The security contact notified Disney she had been at risk of COVID-19 exposure. She also told authorities she was willing to press charges against the man. The next day, Feb. 6, Orange County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call from Disney requesting a trespass warning after the man had been identified and seen on surveillance footage. McKin was later arrested and trespassed from Disney property.”

While we understand masks can be a pain, the policy is very clear that while on Disney property a mask must be worn. Furthermore, even if you’re not following the mask requirements and are corrected to do so, spitting at someone is definitely the extreme.

Passengers Sue Disney Cruise Line Claiming They Contracted COVID-19 on Ship

While the Disney Cruise Line remains unavailable to Disney travelers due to COVID-19, there is some water stirring with Disney and federal courts. Just before Disney Cruise Line docked in March 2020, it seems some passengers believe they contracted COVID-19 on the ship and now want compensation.

As reported by OrlandoSentinel: “Disney Cruise Line is facing four federal lawsuits from Utah and Arizona tourists who claim they contracted the coronavirus while on board the Disney Fantasy ship last March, just before the cruise business docked during the pandemic. The tourists said they contracted the virus while on board and began feeling sick, according to the four lawsuits filed March 2 in federal court’s Orlando division that each seek unspecified damages.”

A Disney Cruise Line spokeswoman denied the lawsuits’ allegations: “We disagree with the allegations and will respond to them in court. No guests or Crew reported symptoms of Covid-19 while aboard the Disney Fantasy during the March 7, 2020, sailing,” Cynthia Martinez said in a statement. “Disney Cruise Line communicated health and safety information with guests in advance of and during their sailing and had numerous protocols in place at the time.”

“The lawsuits accused Disney of refusing to let passengers cancel or reschedule their cruises even if they had “autoimmune diseases and compromised health conditions,” so they were “left without any option” to go on their March 7-14, 2020 trip. According to a Disney email sent to passengers, guests were allowed to change their reservation up until the day before embarkation to receive a 100% cruise credit.”
