Gideon’s Bakehouse has announced a temporary closure of their Disney Springs location, effective this evening. The announcement came on the official Gideon’s Bakehouse Instagram account.
The new bakery has only been open for 11 days, but is already renowned for their specialty coffees, cakes and half-pound cookies.
No other information is available on reasoning behind the shut down or the duration of the closure. But the Instagram post does say that the reopening announcement will be posted there at a later date.
It looks like Disney has a lawsuit on their hands as a northern Mexico soccer club filed on Wednesday, December 30 to sue, due to a alleged contract breach.
As shared by Bloomberg: “Santos Laguna, a soccer club in northern Mexico, is taking on a giant in a lawsuit against Walt Disney Co, alleging breach of contract in a complaint filed in Los Angeles. Santos says that Disney leaves the soccer club with few options to televise its games in Mexico after the entertainment company decided to divest broadcasting assets to acquire 21st Century Fox.”
“Disney agreed to divest or liquidate the Mexican assets of Fox subsidiary FSLA Holdings — which includes Santos’s broadcasting rights — in order to prevent local regulators from blocking the Fox purchase, according to the complaint. The local channels are now managed separately from Disney, as required by Mexican regulators. “
“We believe the claims are utterly without merit and will defend against them vigorously,” a Disney spokesperson said.” Santos says that Disney, FSLA and Mexico’s telecom regulator continue to shut the club out of the divestment process, and says that its contract with FSLA specifically prohibits such a divestment.”
Ron Dominguez, Disney Legend and former Executive Vice President of Attractions, passed away January 1, 2021. He was 85. Dominguez, known as “Mr. Disneyland,” retired from The Walt Disney Company in 1994 after 39 years of service.
The news of Dominguez’s death was first shared on the Disneyland Alumni Club Facebook page.
Born August 10, 1935, Dominguez literally grew up on the property that would become Disneyland. He shared his memories with D23.
“Our house was located right about where the entrance to Pirates of the Caribbean and Cafe Orleans are today. The day we moved out, in August of 1954, we were walking in ditches and holes. Things were popping up around us because construction had to move ahead. They built Disneyland in a year.”
Ron Dominguez D23 Biography
Dominguez was hired as a Disneyland ticket taker four days before the theme park opened. In a strange twist of fate, Dominguez found that Walt Disney had moved the previous Dominguez family home backstage to serve as administrative offices.
In 1957, Dominguez was promoted to the assistant supervisor of Frontierland. In 1962, he was the manager of Tomorrowland, eventually moving on to manage the west side of Disneyland. He continued to work his way up the ranks. In 1974, Dominguez was named vice president of Disneyland and chairman of the park operating committee.
Dominguez became Executive Vice President Walt Disney Attractions, West Coast, in 1990. His close relationship with, and service within, the City of Anaheim are credited with paving the way for Disney California Adventure. He was named a Disney Legend in 2000.
According to the Disneyland Alumni Club Facebook post, Dominguez is survived by his wife of 41 years, Betty.
Splash Mountain at Magic Kingdom wrapped up its difficult year of 2020 with an evacuation late on New Year’s Eve.
The ride was stopped at around 9:15 PM, though My Disney Experience still listed it as having a 35 minute wait.
Several logs were backed up in areas. Work lights were turned on inside and Cast Members were visible evacuating guests.
We learned in June 2020 that Splash Mountain at both Magic Kingdom and Disneyland would soon be re-themed to The Princess and the Frog, though no date for the re-theming has been announced.
With the opening of Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure imminent, it seems Disney has prepared a new background music loop for the France Pavilion in EPCOT. We heard new background music coming from the pavilion’s expansion when we visited recently.
The music was not discernible from inside the France Pavilion, where the regular France music loop continued to play. We could hear this new loop from across the river and were able to identify some music from the Ratatouille soundtrack, including “Le Festin”, “A Real Gourmet Kitchen”, and the medley from the end credits.
