6 Yr Old Spends His Disney Savings on Evacuees

It’s ironic on terrible situation can often bring the humanity out in us. How times of great trouble for some, can lead others to do unbelievable acts of kindness.

Hurricane Dorian has devastated many and forced many into being uncomfortable or worse but it has also brought out heroes that we may had never met.

Here’s a great story of one such hero; (via Fox8)

“A South Carolina 6-year-old decided some things are more important than a trip to Disney World.

This Sunday, Jermaine Bell will turn 7, and after saving money for a birthday trip to Disney World, he decided his birthday cash was better spent helping those evacuated from the South Carolina coast ahead of Hurricane Dorian, WJBF reports.

“The people that are traveling to go to places, I wanted them to have some food to eat, so they can enjoy the ride to the place that they’re going to stay at,” Bell said.

The child used the money to buy hot dogs and chips and water, and he gave it all up for nothing in return.

“I wanted to be generous and live to give,” Bell said.

The 6-year-old, with the help of his grandmother, put together signs and stood on the side of Highway 125 in Allendale. He was able to help out close to 100 evacuees, according to WJBF.

Bell’s hopes for a big Disney trip however are far from gone, and he’s holding out hope that he can still make that dream come true.”

Couple Gets Engaged At Galaxy’s Edge

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge finally opened at Disney’s Hollywood Studios within Walt Disney World on August 29th, 2019. The area was quickly at capacity as all of the guests poured in to check out the planet of Batuu. Among the guests to attend the opening were Robert Trevelyan and his girlfriend, Megan Bender. The pair are from Lake City, Florida and are now engaged after their visit to the immersive land.

The pair stopped to pose for pictures in front of the Millennium Falcon with Disney PhotoPass photographers. Megan looked back at the ship and Robert took the opportunity to get down on one knee and pop the question!

The Walt disney Company To Donates Over $1 Million To Hurricane Relief and Recovery

Disney Cruise Line has made a statement that it will be giving back to its home port of call in The Bahamas by pledging $1 million to help aid relief efforts there in the wake of Hurricane Dorian. This comes as a joint effort across multiple cruise lines, like Royal Caribbean and Carnival Cruise Line, to help bring the island back onto its feet after being battered by the disastrous Category 5 storm.

The Walt Disney Company, led by Disney Cruise Line, has committed more than $1 million in cash and in-kind support to help relief and recovery efforts for those in The Bahamas affected by Hurricane Dorian.

“The Walt Disney Company stands with the people of The Bahamas affected by Hurricane Dorian,” said Robert A. Iger, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, The Walt Disney Company.  “We hope our $1 million donation will provide much-needed relief and help our neighbors, colleagues, and all those impacted by this devastating storm begin the long process of recovery as they work to put their lives and communities back together.”

Disney’s commitment includes a $1 million donation to non-profit relief agencies who will be undertaking recovery and rebuilding efforts, as well as the provision of supplies – including food staples and basic construction materials – to those in impacted areas.

Additionally, Disney employees with immediate needs in impacted areas of The Bahamas will have access to a range of resources. Disney Castaway Cay, which experienced only tropical force strength winds, employs more than 60 Bahamians from Abaco and Grand Bahama, as well as several employees from other Bahamian islands.

“The Bahamas is such a special place to us and our guests, and we have watched the devastation created by Hurricane Dorian with concern and heartache,” Jeff Vahle, president of Disney Cruise Line said. “We stand with the Bahamian people, and especially those in Abaco and Grand Bahama, as they recover from the worst storm to ever make landfall in The Bahamas. As the needs in these communities are assessed, we are prepared to aid the relief and recovery efforts through funding, the provision of supplies and by providing support to our Bahamian Crew Members.”

Disney continues to monitor Hurricane Dorian and will coordinate on an ongoing basis with nonprofit organizations on emergency response efforts. This includes sharing lifesaving information with families before and during emergencies, prepositioning supplies at-the-ready to respond rapidly to natural disasters, and providing resources to activate large-scale responses as needed in the event of a disaster.

The Latest Hurricane Dorian News 9/3/19

Via CBS News

Hurricane Dorian started to move northward toward the U.S. Tuesday morning after stalling over the Bahamas and causing widespread devastation. Millions of people in Florida and the Southeast were anxiously watching the storm, a powerful and menacing threat sitting miles off the Florida coast.

Dorian was a Category 3 storm with maximum sustained winds of 120 mph as of 8 a.m. EDT, the National Hurricane Center said. The hurricane slammed into the Bahamas as a Category 5 — as powerful as a hurricane can get.

It unleashed massive flooding, shredding roofs, hurling cars and forcing rescue crews to take shelter. By late Monday afternoon, the storm’s top sustained winds fell to 130 mph — down from 185 mph hours earlier — as it crept along on its path of destruction. Storm surges in some places raised water levels more than 20 feet above normal.
